Why Career Pathway Exploration Matters
Too many in our communities face a common challenge: they don’t know what careers are available, how to pursue them, or where their talents could thrive. This gap is especially wide for youth in underserved areas and adults re-entering the workforce after barriers such as incarceration or long-term unemployment.
CYEP fills that gap by introducing participants to career options they may have never considered, connecting them to mentors and industry professionals, and providing real-world insights into what it takes to succeed.
Youth Exploration: Sparking Early Vision
In middle and high schools across the National Capital Region, CYEP leads workshops, career fairs, and STEM immersion experiences that allow students to discover fields from robotics to public health. These events help demystify career journeys and show young people what’s possible beyond the classroom.
“I didn’t think coding was for me until I got to try it hands-on,”shared one student from a CYEP tech camp. Now I’m thinking about studying computer science.”
Early exposure fuels ambition—and builds the confidence to pursue post-secondary training or college pathways with purpose.
Adult Pathways: From Reentry to Reimagining
For adults, especially fathers in CYEP’s workforce and reentry programs, career pathway exploration becomes a foundation for reinvention. Through guided assessments, job shadowing, and coaching, participants identify career interests and build action plans.
