Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who is eligible for the workforce development program?

The work force development program is open to all individuals aged 18 and up, particularly those from underserved communities in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. Whether you’re a recent high school graduate, a parent, a career-changer, or someone returning to work after time away, we encourage you to apply. We do not require previous job experience or a tech background — just a willingness to learn and grow. Applicants must attend an info session and complete a short application form before joining the next cohort.

What is the cost to join the program?
There is no cost for most participants. CYEP is proud to offer the tech and workforce development program free of charge to eligible residents. Program funding is provided through grants and partnerships, which allows us to eliminate financial barriers. Additional services like resume printing, laptop lending, or transportation stipends may also be available based on need and availability.
What jobs will this program help me prepare for?
This program prepares you for roles in customer service, IT support, administrative assistance, tech helpdesk, digital literacy coaching, and more. Some participants move into internships or apprenticeships after graduation. We align our workforce training with local industry needs and can tailor job readiness to your interests — whether that’s in tech, office administration, or remote work.
How does the Fathers in Tech Program work?

The fathers in tech program offers focused tech skills training in a format that works for busy dads. Classes are held in the evenings or weekends to allow flexibility, and peer support is built into the experience. Fathers learn computer basics, job search strategies, and workplace professionalism — while also building community with other participants. We believe when fathers thrive, families thrive too.

How long is the program?
Our core work force development program typically runs 6 to 8 weeks, depending on your selected track. Participants can expect 2 to 3 sessions per week, which include workshops, coaching, and technical instruction. Upon completion, graduates are invited to attend ongoing career check-ins, alumni meetups, and job fairs.
Can I join if I already have some work experience?
Absolutely. Many participants have prior job experience but are looking to transition into tech or enhance their digital skills. Our program is designed to be flexible and applicable whether you’re just starting out or seeking to upgrade your career. We’ll help you reframe your experience, identify new paths, and develop in-demand skills.
How do I apply?
To apply, simply complete our interest form online or call our program office. We’ll schedule a quick info session and help you get started. If you’re interested in the fathers in tech program, mention this during your call or form submission. A coordinator will contact you to confirm your eligibility and walk you through onboarding.
